If you’ve spent a lot of time in the gym trying to build a more toned physique without achieving what you’d call a success, you know all the trouble areas of your body that always carry extra flab. Love handles, that spare tire you see every time you sit down, and those pockets of dimples from extra fat on your butt are some of the most common ones. If you’ve ever been frustrated enough to ask a muscle-bound gym “enthusiast” for the secret to their six-pack abs, you were probably disappointed when they told you to do what you’re already doing.

The truth is, generations of your family history and genetics have a lot to do with the way your body accumulates and stores fat, and sometimes discipline and hard work aren’t quite enough. The good news is you’re living in an era when huge advancements in fat-destroying technology are making some amazing body-contouring results possible, all without surgery

Body-contouring treatments like Emsculpt® can even help build and tone healthy muscle mass while eliminating a portion of fat cells. Seven robust clinical studies support its ability to burn fat and yield better muscle tone.

Still Emsculpt renders the best results for adults in good shape who desire better definition, rather than significant weight loss. In this post, we’ll talk about the target weight you should aim for to get the most out of your Emsculpt® appointments and the best long-term results.

The Ideal Weight for a Good Emsculpt® Candidate

Clinical studies of Emsculpt® show some pretty amazing results for patients. In one study, for example, patients saw an average increase of more than 15% in muscle mass and a nearly 20% reduction in fat cell deposits in targeted treatment areas. Emsculpt® uses a system of paddles and bands to deliver high intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy to muscles, causing them to contract and have an intense “workout,” roughly equivalent to the same impact as doing about 20,000 sit-ups in 30 minutes.

During an initial consultation for Emsculpt®, one of the factors we examine to make sure you’re a good candidate is the thickness of your body fat in the desired treatment area. According to the manufacturer, Emsculpt’s® HIFEM energy can penetrate up to about 2.7 inches (7 centimeters) of body fat before it loses its effectiveness to make muscles contract. If you have body fat deposits exceeding 2.7 inches in thickness, talk to your doctor about a diet and workout routine designed to burn fat before trying Emsculpt®.

The ideal candidate for Emsculpt® is fit or reasonably healthy and wants to tone trouble areas. It is not meant for someone who is obese and looking for drastic weight loss results. Emsculpt® can be a wonderful way to hold yourself accountable and kickstart a much healthier lifestyle, but you need to be within about 20 lbs. of your target weight before you undergo the treatment.

What Is an Emsculpt® Treatment Plan Like?

Emsculpt® was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to destroy fat cells and tighten muscles in the abdomen and buttocks. In general, most treatment plans recommend a total of four, 30-minute sessions over the course of two weeks to see the best results. Individual circumstances, of course, may cause that recommendation to vary.

The results of Emsculpt® actually improve over time, with the best results showing at about three months. After the initial treatment, we usually talk about any follow-up maintenance treatments after about six months.

Other than making sure you are within the target weight range and body fat measurements, there isn’t much preparation before Emsculpt® appointments. We typically recommend you don’t eat a big meal before appointments and be sure to be hydrated, but don’t start treatment with a full bladder.
