CHOOSING AN IMPLANT TYPE
Dr. Wilson utilizes two different types of silicone implants: traditional silicone implants and form-stable “gummy bear” implants which is also called cohesive silicone gel implant. Traditional silicone implants are filled with a viscous silicone gel, whereas gummy bear implants or cohesive silicone gel implants are filled with a highly cohesive form of silicone gel that firmly maintains its shape. Like a gummy bear candy, they maintain their shape perfectly even when they’re cut in half. Gummy bear implants are available in both shaped and round forms. Teardrop shaped implants may more closely mimic the natural slope of the breast.
Both of these implant types have distinct advantages: Gummy bear implants are favored by some patients because they’re excellent at retaining their shape over the course of many years; they’re also highly resistant to rippling and leakage. Traditional silicone gel implants, on the other hand have a softer feel that’s reminiscent of natural breast tissue.
