BodyTite

BodyTite in Portsmouth, NH With Dr. Anthony Wilson

With good eating and exercise habits, most of us can attain a heathy weight. But even when we are close to our ideal weight, stubborn areas of fat and loose skin can remain — bulges that keep us from the sleek and toned bodies we want. BodyTite is a revolutionary treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to tighten loose skin. When combined with liposuction, it can melt away and remove targeted pockets of fat for long-lasting body-reshaping results.

Dr. Anthony Wilson, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Portsmouth, NH, has extensive experience in performing facial, body, and reconstructive procedures. He is one of the few practitioners in the seacoast area with the equipment and training to offer BodyTite treatment. What Is BodyTite?

BodyTite is a state-of-the-art treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to tighten skin and stimulate collagen production. It offers a non-invasive alternative to surgery for tightening and firming sagging skin, whether from weight loss, pregnancy, or aging. BodyTite is often combined with a minimally invasive form of liposuction (radiofrequency assisted lipolysis or RFAL) to liquefy and remove pockets of diet- and exercise-resistant fat. The treatment leaves only tiny, virtually invisible scars, and no stitches are required.

The combination in a single procedure of skin tightening and fat elimination with minimal scarring makes BodyTite an attractive alternative to traditional liposuction and other non-invasive fat-removal procedures. Recovery is much faster than with traditional liposuction and the skin-tightening results offer an advantage over treatments that only eliminate fat.

BodyTite is an FDA-approved treatment. It can be used to tighten skin and remove excess fat on any area of the body, including:

  • Abdomen
  • Thighs
  • Hips
  • Knees
  • Arms
  • Buttocks
  • Neck
  • Bra line
  • Male breasts

Am I a Good Candidate for BodyTite?

BodyTite may be an ideal procedure for you if you are close to (within 30 percent of) your ideal weight and have areas of moderately loose skin and pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. It is most effective for contouring and tightening specific areas of the body. It is not a weight-loss treatment.

The best candidates are in generally good health. BodyTite is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or for people with autoimmune diseases, skin diseases, infections, or allergies to certain local anesthetics. As with any plastic surgery treatment, if you smoke, you will need to quit at least three weeks before the procedure.

What Happens in BodyTite Treatment?

If you are having the BodyTite procedure to remove fat, the first step will be to administer a local anesthetic to the treatment area. Dr. Wilson with then make a small incision in the skin, just large enough to insert a cannula (a thin surgical tube) at the end of which are electrodes that emit radiofrequency energy. These precisely controlled bursts of energy heat and liquefy the fat cells, which are then suctioned out through the cannula. The heat from the radiofrequency bursts also stimulates the production of collagen, a compound that, over time, works to tighten and rejuvenate the skin. Sensors monitor the temperature of the skin throughout the treatment to control the intensity of the energy bursts.

Treatment of a single area takes 30 to 45 minutes once it has been numbed with the anesthetic. Because most patients receive treatment in more than one area, the entire procedure typically takes two to four hours.

What Results Can I Expect from Treatment with BodyTite?

The skin tightening results of BodyTite treatment will begin to be visible within two weeks and will continue to improve over the following weeks as increased levels of collagen in the skin cause it to firm and contract. Most patients see a 25- to 45-percent contraction of the skin in the treated area when maximum results are reached at about six months.

The liposuction results will take longer to be visible, as the initial reaction to the procedure will include some swelling. You’ll see the results of the fat removal within about three months. Your results will depend on the area treated and how much fat has been removed. Dr. Wilson can show you before-and-after photographs of other patients to give you an idea of how significant the slimming and contouring effects can be.

Dr. Wilson and his staff are amazing and I can’t thank them enough for helping me be a more confident version of myself! They are so patient and helpful, I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

FAQs - BodyTite Treatment

If you have BodyTite treatment with liposuction, you will need a ride home after the treatment as driving may not be safe and walking may be uncomfortable. You can expect some swelling and bruising in the days just after treatment. Some patients experience a feeling of tightness as the skin begins to contract. Dr. Wilson recommend  a compression garment to minimize the swelling and promote healing. These temporary effects pass quickly, and you should feel fully recovered within a few days.

Most patients are able to return to work within two days as long as it does not involve strenuous activity. You’ll be able to resume low-intensity physical activities within one or two weeks. You’ll be advised to avoid high-intensity activities like running and weight training for four to six weeks.

As your skin reacts to the treatment over the next few weeks, it may appear uneven and red. This is a normal part of the healing process — a sign that collagen production is increasing.

As with any cosmetic treatment, BodyTite does have some potential side effects and complications. Short-term effects will likely include some swelling, bruising, and redness. These are a normal part of the healing process.

In the hands of an inexperienced practitioner, the treatment can result in burns to the skin and in seromas, which are pockets of fluid in the treated tissue. It is important to select an experienced and board-certified plastic surgeon for any aesthetic procedure.

The advantages of BodyTite over traditional liposuction include:

  • Skin-tightening results
  • Local rather than general anesthesia
  • Faster recovery
  • More even contouring

With any plastic surgery procedure, it is important to select a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Wilson is a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in cosmetic surgery, including skin tightening, fat removal, and body-contouring procedures. He is fully trained and experienced in using the BodyTite technology.
