Silhouette InstaLift at AW Plastic Surgery
We all want to retain the glow of youth even as we age, and our faces lose volume and elasticity. These signs of aging are often a major cause of concern for our patients. In some cases, facelift surgery is a right option. However, for others, a minimally invasive procedure called the Silhouette InstaLift is all that is needed to address these signs of aging and turn back the clock. InstaLift can prevent the need for a full facelift for some years; the result of each procedure can last up to 18 months. Dr. Anthony Wilson and Sarah Proulx are proud to offer the Silhouette InstaLift in Portsmouth, NH to patients who want to address skin laxity and loss of volume with a minimally invasive procedure that requires little to no downtime.
How Silhouette InstaLift Works
The Silhouette InstaLift procedure takes place in our office and begins with an injection of lidocaine to help address any discomfort the patient may experience. Dr. Wilson or Sarah then inserts a needle to place thin filaments under the skin. These filaments are made of dissolving suture material and lift sagging skin in areas such as the cheeks, jawline, and jowls. In most procedures, two to four sutures are placed on each side of the face underneath the surface of the skin, in the fat layer. The unique cones on these sutures lift and lock them into place. The sutures produce an instant lifting effect, and additional lifting will be seen throughout the next three to six months as the sutures also stimulate collagen production. In approximately 18 months, the sutures will dissolve and be absorbed safely by the body.
How to Prepare for Your InstaLift Procedure
For all procedures we suggest that patients avoid alcohol and, for the week before surgery, avoid any over-the-counter or prescription medications that can thin the blood. These include medications such as warfarin and aspirin as well as natural remedies like turmeric, cinnamon, and vitamin E. It’s important to tell your provider if you have a history of bleeding disorders and to communicate what types of medications and natural remedies you are taking before treatment.
You should not need a companion to accompany you to your appointment; most patients can drive themselves home afterward. You should not need to take any time off work, though some patients choose to take a few days off or avoid social situations for several days until all bruising and redness have subsided.
Recovering from InstaLift: What You Can Expect
One of the most significant benefits to the Silhouette InstaLift is the minimal recovery and downtime. Some patients may experience some minor swelling, bruising, or redness after the procedure, though this tends to fade within a day or two and can be easily concealed with makeup. Most patients do not find the need to alter their schedules or daily activities, though Dr. Wilson does recommend that strenuous exercise or other activities be limited for a week or two after the procedure. You should continue to avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications for a few days to a week after surgery. When you consult with Dr. Wilson, he will give you specific instructions on the best way to manage these issues after your procedure.
You can expect instant results from your Silhouette InstaLift procedure. Some patients see these results before they even leave the office. Results should continue to improve throughout the next few months.
If for any reason you believe your results are not as Dr. Wilson explained them to you, call in to speak to one of our experienced team members. It is normal to have slight over correction and puckering for approximately 2 to 4 weeks after your procedure. These puckers can be covered with makeup.
Who is a Good Candidate for the Silhouette InstaLift?
Those who are experiencing aging such as sagging skin or loss of volume are good candidates for the InstaLift procedure. Dr. Wilson finds that it is especially effective for men and women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s who are not yet ready for a full facelift or who have had a prior facelift and want to maintain their results. Ideal candidates should be in good physical health and have a n adequate layer of facial fat to allow for placement of the dissolving threads. Very thin patients with little fat sometimes do not make good candidates. Other patients who are not ideal candidates are those who have excessive sagging or facial folds, those who have lost too much skin elasticity, or those who are pregnant or have a history of bleeding disorders.
Combining an InstaLift with Other Procedures
Though an InstaLift can help address many signs of aging on the face, it can be enhanced when combined with other types of treatments. Dr. Wilson often recommends his patients combine an InstaLift with a laser resurfacing or microneedling treatment if they want to brighten the skin or reduce signs of acne scarring or hyperpigmentation. Because the InstaLift treatment does not treat skin tone or brightness, this is a common pairing of treatments. For those who are interested in achieving improved tissue volume, Dr. Wilson will sometimes recommend combining the lift with a hyaluronic dermal filler or Sculptra® to increase plumpness in lips, define cheekbones, or address other areas that appear hollow. When you consult with Dr. Wilson, he can recommend complementary treatments based on your unique needs and goals.
