We traditionally think of plastic surgery clinics as specializing in feminine aesthetics, and that was true for a period of time.  However, over the past decades, more and more men are choosing cosmetic procedures to enhance their appearance and confidence.  As our society places value on a young and fit appearance for both men and women, the rise in men considering plastic surgery is not surprising.

Our practice has helped hundreds of men look and feel their best through a number of surgical and non-surgical treatments, appropriate for men from all backgrounds and with any cosmetic concerns.  As with all of our patients, you can expect that Dr. Wilson will strive to understand your aesthetic goals, and he will come up with a treatment plan to give you results that are excellent and totally natural-looking.  Below we describe a few cosmetic procedures that are most popular among our male patients.

Kybella® for Permanent, Non-Surgical Double Chin Removal

If you have a double chin, there is now a permanent, non-surgical solution called Kybella®®, the only FDA-approved non-surgical treatment for submental fullness, or excess fat tissue along and under the jawline. Using a series of precisely-placed tiny injections along the jawline and under the chin, the treatment targets fat cells and destroys them. Over time, the body absorbs and flushes the fat, reducing fullness in the targeted area over the next couple of weeks.

While most patients are very satisfied with their results after even one treatment session, some men with a good bit of fullness require a few sessions to get the outcomes they desire.  Best of all, as long as you maintain a relatively stable weight after your Kybella® treatment, the results are completely permanent, as the fat cells are unable to regenerate.

Male Breast Reduction

Men who have excessive breast tissue, a condition called “gynecomastia,” often feel self-conscious about their chest and may even experience a lack of confidence.  This condition is extremely common among men in the United States. Despite efforts made to change diet or exercise routines, it is not uncommon for some men to have difficulty in naturally reducing their breast tissue. For some, this condition may be genetic; for others, external factors such as diet may play a role in disturbing their natural hormone balance.

Regardless of the cause of your excess breast tissue, Dr. Wilson can help through a male breast reduction surgery.  Depending on the extent of your enlarged breasts, it may be possible to treat them through liposuction alone, which is applied to remove both fat and glandular tissue to leave you with a natural-looking male contour to your chest. Some men also require removal of excess skin, which can be accomplished through a small incision under the breast. Recovery from this procedure is relatively quick, and discomfort is minimal; most men are able to return to normal daily activity within a week or two.

Liposuction

While you may be able to reach your target weight through diet and exercise alone, many men struggle with sculpting a trim physique through these activities.  Men often have a “problem area” or two that is resistant to fat loss despite lifestyle changes. These areas are often where our genetic predisposition tells our bodies to hold on to fat, and they can stubbornly create unsightly bulges that detract from an otherwise healthy-looking body.

If you struggle with problem areas, liposuction may be a great option to treat them. Many men have fat removed from their abdomens, thighs, buttocks, or arms that allows their underlying muscle tone to become visible.  During the relatively fast procedure, small incisions are made in inconspicuous locations, allowing Dr. Wilson to re-contour the body with liposuction fat removal. While you may experience bruising after the procedure, pain medications can keep you comfortable while you heal; you can expect to wear a compression garment and have reduced activities for a few weeks.  Fat cells removed during liposuction will not grow back, so you can rest assured that your new shape is here to stay!

Men are the fastest-growing group of people who undergo plastic surgery. If you have concerns about your body that you would like addressed, contact the office of Dr. Wilson at 603.294.4526 to find out about your options, specifically designed for and customized to our male patients.
