Fat Grafting

Natural breast augmentation with fat transfer is an option for patients interested in a small increase in their bust size without the use of an implant. Also called fat grafting, the cosmetic procedure involves removing fat from the abdomen, hips, and/or waist through liposuction and transferring that fat directly to the breasts.

Whether your breasts have lost fullness due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, or aging, fat grafting breast augmentation may be just what you need to give your breasts a more youthful appearance.

  • What is Fat Grafting?

Fat transfer breast augmentation is commonly performed by board-certified plastic surgeons like Dr. Wilson. It’s done by harvesting fat via liposuction from certain parts of your own body and injecting it into your breasts. Common donor sites include the hips, thighs, abdomen, waist, and buttocks. The amount of fat injected will vary from patient to patient.

Also known as fat injection surgery, this autologous fat transfer breast surgery is a great option for women who are looking for a relatively small increase in breast size and prefer more natural-looking results.

  • Who is a Good Candidate For Fat Grafting?

During your consultation with Dr. Wilson, he will help you determine if you’re a good candidate for the fat transfer procedure. Some of the qualifications that can make you an ideal candidate for this cosmetic treatment include:

    • You have adequate fat to take from and move to the breasts.
    • You are struggling with gapping at the top of your bra.
    • You are not looking for breast implants but want to enhance the size of your breasts.
    • You are in generally good health.
    • You are a nonsmoker.
    • You have realistic expectations and a positive outlook.

I had a major surgery with Dr. Wilson with beautiful results. Not to any fault of theirs, I had a complication during healing. They staff was so insanely accommodating at seeing me and taking care of me. I was in a lot of pain among other things and they saw me immediately. I had to see them a lot during this healing process and each time I felt respected and well cared for. The girls are so patient and kind. the nurses are incredibly skilled at their craft. The office is immaculate and beautiful. LOVE them!

  • The Fat Grafting Procedure

Fat grafting to the breast involves the harvesting and transferring of fat cells to the breasts. How is it done? It will start with the administration of general or local anesthesia, and once you’re comfortable, excess fat tissue will be taken from the donor site via liposuction. The fat is loosened and sucked out. The fat is then purified, and the processed fatty tissue is put into syringes.

From there, the harvested fat injections are injected into the breasts to improve their size, shape, and contour. How much fat is taken from the donor site and the number of fat injections you need depends on the results you’re looking for.

Following fat transfer, approximately 40 – 60 percent of the injected fat survives and stays in the breast.

  • Recovery

Recovery from fat grafting to the breast is usually well-tolerated in most of our patients. You may feel some discomfort, swelling, bruising, and tenderness at the donor site, but the breasts usually only experience some mild soreness and swelling. The swelling can last up to six months.

You’ll want to avoid strenuous activities for a few weeks, and make sure to sleep on your back so no pressure is put on your breasts. You’ll also want to wear loose-fitting clothing for the first few weeks so you’re not compressing your breasts.

You’ll be given a surgical bra, and Dr. Wilson will provide instructions on how long to wear it. He will also provide aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing.
