Over time, the brow often begins to droop, causing creases to form on the forehead. Changes in your skin tone and firmness can also alter your expression, making you look tired, angry, or sad. Though non-surgical treatments like Botox® can effectively treat the early signs of brow aging, advanced forehead laxity requires surgical care.
Brow lift surgery, also known as a forehead lift, provides a long-lasting solution for drooping skin above the eyes and gives you a more youthful appearance.

What is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift is a cosmetic procedure that can target multiple signs of aging on the forehead and around the eyes. The procedure smooths static wrinkles on the forehead and can greatly reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles (crow’s feet and vertical frown lines) around the eyes. It can also raise a sagging brow line, correct brow asymmetry, and lift hooded upper eyelids.
Dr. Wilson frequently incorporates brow lifts with other cosmetic procedures like facelift or neck lift surgery, but it can be performed as a standalone procedure. It depends on your goals. Brow lift procedures can also be combined with an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) if the patient wishes to correct prominent under-eye bags or treat peripheral vision problems.
To achieve comprehensive rejuvenation with a limited amount of cosmetic surgery, you may choose to combine your brow lift with one or more injectable treatments. Dermal fillers, for example, can be used to fill in any hollows around the eyes that are still present after your forehead lift. They can also augment your cheeks and chin and fill in deep smile lines, subtly lifting and refining the lower half of your face.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?
Patients seeking a forehead lift (as a standalone procedure) should have realistic expectations. The ideal forehead lift candidate is a healthy, mature adult whose primary issues are drooping eyebrows or asymmetrical brows, deep forehead creases, and hooded eyes.
Generally healthy individuals who are non-smokers. Those with concerns of heavy brows or upper eye area. Smoking delays healing and increases a person’s risk of infection, bleeding, and other complications. Wearing a nicotine patch should not interfere with your ability to heal, so you should feel free to ask your doctor about this option.
Certain medications can interfere with your ability to have invasive surgery. Blood thinners and anti-inflammatory pain relievers, including over-the-counter medicines like aspirin and ibuprofen, can increase your risk of bleeding and severe bruising. As such, you will be required to stop using these medications at least two weeks before your surgery.
When you come in for a brow lift consultation, Dr. Wilson will review any medications and supplements you are taking to verify that you can safely have a brow lift.

The Brow Lift Procedure
Brow lift (also known as a forehead lift) surgery can target multiple signs of aging on the forehead and around the eyes. This procedure smooths static wrinkles on the forehead, and it can also raise the brow line, correct brow asymmetry, and lift hooded eyelids.
Dr. Wilson typically utilizes the gliding brow lift technique, but can also perform a lateral brow lift if needed.
If this is done under anesthesia depends on your health history and conversation with Dr. Wilson. Many patients are good candidates to do this procedure awake in our surgical suite in our office, while some others are better candidates to go to the hospital and have this done under anesthesia.

Recovery
If we perform a gliding brow lift, the downtime is approximately 1 week. If a lateral brow lift is warranted then the downtime is closer to 2 weeks. You will need to take 2 weeks off from exercise completely. After 2 weeks you may resume light exercise, and after 1 month, you can typically resume your normal routine once we have cleared you.
