What is Dysport®?
Dysport is an injectable neuromodulator that is FDA-approved to address moderate to severe frown lines between the brows (glabellar lines). But how does it work? It’s similar to Botox in that it is made up of botulinum toxin type A and temporarily blocks the nerve signals from the brain to the facial muscles that cause frown lines. By blocking these signals, the muscles are unable to contract, and the skin is allowed to smooth out and look more youthful. With just a few injections, you can see results within a few days.
Beyond its aesthetic purposes, Dysport can also be used to address muscle spasms in the neck, calves, elbows, and hands.

Who is a Good Candidate for Dysport?
If you’re struggling with moderate to severe frown lines, chances are you are a good candidate for Dysport injections. That said, during your consultation, Dr. Wilson will review your medical history and ask about your goals before he can determine if this is the right treatment for you. Some of the criteria he is looking for include the following:
- In good overall health
- Are 18 to 65 years old
- Has realistic expectations of treatment
- A nonsmoker
- Aren’t pregnant or breastfeeding
- Willing to stick to a good skincare regimen
The Dysport Procedure
Our Dysport treatment at AW Plastic Surgery could not be simpler. Our team will start by cleansing the treatment area. We will also apply a topical anesthetic to ensure you’re comfortable throughout the process. From there, Dr. Wilson will mark the injection sites and, using a very fine needle, will inject the Dysport formula into the area between the brows. At most, you’ll feel a pinch, but most patients tolerate it very well.
How many injections you need will depend on the results you’re looking for. Treatment doesn’t typically take more than 20 minutes.

MEET DR. WILSONAftercare
After your Dysport injections, you will be able to go home immediately. There is little to no downtime. That said, you will want to avoid rubbing the treatment area, strenuous activities, and smoking and drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours.
You will likely have some redness, swelling, and bruising, but those side effects will dissipate within a day.
But what about results? You may notice improvements within 24 hours, but most patients see significant results within 2-3 days. Your results can last up to five months, and you will need repeat treatments to maintain those results.
