Lines and wrinkles are one of the most common reasons that our patients come to Dr. Wilson at AW Plastic Surgery. They can mar a flawless complexion and make you look older than you are. Luckily, with non-surgical treatments like Botox, you can turn back the clock and see improvements quickly and easily.
What is Botox®?
Botox is a very popular FDA-approved neurotoxin injectable that can treat a wide range of different lines and wrinkles. The active ingredient in the Botox formula is botulinum toxin type A and temporarily reduces the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines, vertical neck bands, and so much more. It works by blocking the nerve signals to the muscles, which stops the muscles from contracting. This allows the skin to smooth out and gives you a more youthful appearance.
But beyond aesthetic concerns, it can also address excessive sweating, muscle spasms, an overactive bladder, and migraines.

Who is a Good Candidate for Botox?
Almost all our patients who are struggling with dynamic lines and wrinkles are good candidates for Botox. That said, there are some criteria Dr. Wilson follows to determine if Botox is right for you. You should be:
- In generally good health
- Have realistic expectations
- A nonsmoker
- Committed to maintaining the health of your skin
- Not pregnant or breastfeeding
The Botox Procedure
The Botox procedure could not be more straightforward. Your actual treatment shouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes.
To start, we’ll cleanse the treatment area and mark the injection sites. We can also apply a topical anesthetic if needed to ensure your comfort. From there, Dr. Wilson will inject the formula into the targeted muscles. Even without an anesthetic, you are likely to only feel a slight pinch.
How many injections you need depends on the results you’re looking for and the size of the treatment area.

MEET DR. WILSONAftercare
After your Botox injections, you will be able to go back to your normal routine almost immediately. You may have some redness, swelling, and bruising, but those side effects will subside within a day or two.
You will want to avoid putting pressure on or rubbing the treatment area for at least 24 hours. You’ll also need to refrain from lying down for 2-4 hours after treatment. Avoiding alcohol, smoking, blood thinners, and strenuous activity is also crucial to achieve the best results.
As for results, you may start to see results in 1-3 days, but full results typically take up to two weeks to take full effect. The results tend to last 3-4 months, and repeated treatment will be needed to maintain your results.
