Microneedling

Collagen levels in the skin decline as we age, and the less collagen we have, the more likely we are to notice fine lines and wrinkles, skin imperfections, and skin laxity issues. Microneedling can address all these issues and more. By making micro-injuries in the skin, microneedling can increase your collagen levels and give you a more youthful appearance.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure, also known as collagen induction therapy, that uses small sterilized needles to prick the skin in order to stimulate new collagen production, increase skin elasticity, and lead to smoother, firmer skin. The treatment can work on all skin tones, including darker skin tones, and addresses a number of skin concerns, including acne, acne scars, enlarged pores, wrinkles, stretch marks, and dark spots, and does so with little to no downtime.

Who is a Good Candidate for Microneedling?

Most patients are good candidates for microneedling, but there are a few qualifications that can make you an ideal candidate for this aesthetic treatment. Some of these qualifications include:

  • Being in overall good health
  • Struggling with acne scarring, surgical scars, fine lines and wrinkles, skin discoloration, uneven skin texture, and other skin issues
  • Not having any skin infections or skin conditions like severe eczema or psoriasis
  • Don’t have an active acne breakout
  • Don’t struggle with any wound-healing problems
  • Aren’t pregnant or breastfeeding

The Microneedling Procedure

The microneedling procedure is relatively simple. It will start off with a topical anesthetic or numbing cream being applied to the treatment area. Once that sets in, Dr. Wilson will use a microneedling device with very thin needles on it. These needles will make tiny holes in the skin and cause very small injuries, triggering the skin’s healing process. These small injuries will also stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, improving your overall skin tone and texture.

Depending on the size of the area or the number of areas being treated, the procedure can take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. Because the pinpricks are so small and anesthetic is applied, you will likely not feel anything during the procedure.

My experience with Anthony and his staff was fabulous. From the moment I walked into the office, I was greeted, and treated like royalty. The level of professionalism was spot on. From day one, my interactions with Anthony and his nursing and administrative staff increased my confidence and trust that I was choosing the right surgeon. All my questions and concerns were answered, and I was never made to feel uncomfortable. My face looks amazing. My eyes brightly shine on my face and my lift has made me feel and look years younger. Thank you all for an amazing three months. Unfortunately, I probably won’t see you again because this face is going to last me a lifetime.

Aftercare

After your microneedling treatment, you will be able to go home or back to your daily routine immediately. There is very little downtime. You will likely notice some irritation, swelling, and redness for the first few days, but that is a completely normal response. You can use an ice pack to help with the swelling.

You’ll want to wait to apply makeup until your skin is fully healed and any redness is gone.

You will want to apply sunscreen regularly as you heal. Your skin will be particularly sensitive to the sun after treatment.

As for results, you’ll typically see noticeable changes within a couple of weeks after treatment. You may need multiple treatments to achieve the results you’re looking for, and you will need maintenance treatment to keep up the results.
