Dr. Wilson Shares His Top 5 Favorite Non-Surgical Procedures

With so many advances in technology and innovative techniques, non-surgical cosmetic procedures have emerged as a popular choice for patients who are looking to enhance their appearance – with little to no downtime. Injectable neuromodulators work to smooth out wrinkles, laser skin resurfacing treatments blur away your skin’s imperfections, and fillers tighten sagging skin. Given their magical qualities, these non-surgical procedures have become favorites of industry experts themselves – including Dr. Anthony Wilson.

With years of experience performing facial and body procedures and helping his patients look and feel their absolute best, Dr. Wilson is the authority on all things beauty. Here, we ask him to share his personal, go-to treatments from AW Plastic Surgery’s extensive menu of services. From laser skin resurfacing to neuromodulators, these are expert-approved treatments and regimens Dr. Wilson swears by.

Best for a ‘No Peel’ Peel Treatment: PRX-T

If you’ve been hesitant about trying out a chemical peel (or have been scared away by that Samantha Jones scene from “Sex and the City”), you’ll be happy to know that there’s a treatment on the market that does almost the same job – but without the “peeling” part. “PRX is the ‘no peel, peel,’ and it helps with overall skin texture,” says Dr. Wilson, who uses the treatment year-round.

Known in the industry as “biorevitalization therapy,” PRX is a gel-like substance made from a combination of trichloroacetic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and kojic acid – all of which work together to ramp up collagen production and smooth out imperfections. The best part? During your appointment, all you have to do is sit back as your aesthetician massages your face with PRX several times. From there, you’ll rinse, moisturize, and resume your day! | Learn more about dermal peels at AW Plastic Surgery here.

Best for Stalling Signs of Aging: Neuromodulators

Given their popularity, you’ll be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn’t heard of neuromodulators by now. They’ve practically become synonymous with non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Also known as Botox® Cosmetic, Dysport®, Xeomin®, or Jeuveau, neuromodulators are injections of botulinum toxin that are primarily used for smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles.

“Neruromodulators reduce wrinkles and enhance the overall quality of your skin,” Dr. Wilson says. “They are also prophylactic for aging.” The treatment is quick, minimally invasive, and requires no downtime – which is why it’s such a sought-after alternative to plastic surgery. For these reasons (and more), Dr. Wilson uses this “lunchtime treatment” every three to four months. | Learn more about anti-aging injections at AW Plastic Surgery here.

Best for Overall Skin Rejuvenation

“Microneedling is also a ‘go-to’ treatment as it has a very tangible, overall improvement in skin quality,” Dr. Wilson says. Also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), microneedling involves gliding a pen-like device with either 12 or 36 “micro” needles across your face. These thin needles create tiny injuries across your skin, kick-starting the healing process.

As your body repairs itself, it begins producing collagen, which in turn helps tighten and smooth out your skin. Oftentimes, microneedling is combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) – a small sample of your own blood that’s spun in a centrifuge. This boosts the skin-healing and tightening effects of the treatment, tackling issues like acne spots, fine wrinkles, sun spots, and so much more. | Learn more about microneedling services at AW Plastic Surgery here.

Best for Targeted Corrective Issues: HALO

Laser skin resurfacing has become one of the most effective and often-requested non-surgical treatments that targets skin imperfections and improves the skin’s overall texture. Using pulses of light to stimulate the production of new skin cells, these lasers work their magic and banish wrinkles, scars, and discoloration.

“MOXI and BBL are different lasers and can help with corrective issues – brown spots, blood vessels, wrinkles, etc.,” Dr. Wilson says. “These are all great because each treatment can be tailored and customized to meet each patient’s needs.” MOXI and BBL offer slightly shorter downtime than their big sister’s treatment, HALO. Best for Dramatic Results: HALO

Another laser skin resurfacing treatment that has proven to be a game-changer in the industry is the HALO, or the Hybrid Fractional Laser. While MOXI is a non-ablative laser (meaning it heats up the underlying tissue without harming the skin’s top layer), HALO combines non-ablative and ablative wavelengths. In other words, the two-pronged approach targets different layers of skin for a more dramatic result.

However, as Dr. Wilson says: “Keep in mind, there is more downtime with lasers than other treatments.” This is particularly true with HALO, which has a longer recovery period than MOXI. Choosing the right laser for you and your particular needs is that much easier when you have the guidance of professionals who know exactly what it takes to achieve the perfect glowy skin you’ve always wanted. | Learn more about laser skin resurfacing at AW Plastic Surgery here.
