FOREHEAD LIFT SURGERY IN PORTSMOUTH AT AW PLASTIC SURGERY

Over time, the brow often begins to droop, causing creases to form on the forehead. These changes in skin tone and firmness can alter your expression, making you look tired, angry, or sad. Though non-surgical treatments like Botox® can effectively treat the early signs of brow aging, advanced forehead laxity requires surgical care. Brow lift surgery, also known as a forehead lift, provides a long-lasting solution for drooping skin above the eyes.

INTRODUCTION TO BROW LIFT SURGERY

Brow lift surgery can target multiple signs of aging on the forehead and around the eyes. This procedure smooths static wrinkles on the forehead and can greatly reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles (crow’s feet) around the eyes. It can also raise the brow line, correct brow asymmetry, and lift hooded eyelids.

Dr. Wilson frequently incorporates brow lift surgery into facelift surgery, but it can be performed as a standalone procedure, depending on the patient’s goals. Brow lift surgery can also be combined with an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) if the patient wishes to correct prominent under-eye bags or treat peripheral vision problems.

To achieve comprehensive rejuvenation with a limited amount of surgery, you may choose to combine your brow lift with one or more injectable treatments. Dermal fillers, for example, can be used to fill in any hollows around the eyes that are still present after your forehead lift. They can also augment your cheeks and chin and fill in deep smile lines, subtly lifting and refining the lower half of your face.

As a national trainer for Galderma, Dr. Anthony Wilson is a leading expert on the use of injectable treatments. When you visit him for a consultation, he will help you develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses both the structural and the superficial aspects of the aging process.

HOW IS BROW LIFT SURGERY PERFORMED?

Dr. Wilson conducts brow lift surgery while the patient is under sedation to prevent discomfort. To perform brow lift surgery, Dr. Wilson begins by making an incision along the top of the patient’s forehead. This incision is made within the hairline, so patients will not have to be concerned about the presence of visible scar tissue after surgery; hair conceals any scarring. If you have experienced hair loss during your lifetime (i.e., male pattern baldness), Dr. Wilson will customize your procedure so that the incision site is concealed by your current hairline, if possible.

After making an incision in the hairline, Dr. Wilson carefully adjusts the muscles of the forehead, if needed. He then re-drapes the skin so that it sits smoothly over the forehead and removes any excess skin. Finally, the patient’s incision is closed with sutures and dressed in bandages.

Dr Wilson and his staff are amazing. I can't stress the excellence of care and concern. From the moment one walks in the door one feels more like family than a patient. Dr Wilson is an extremely skilled surgeon. Highly recommend.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING RECOVERY FROM A FOREHEAD LIFT

Recovering from a forehead lift is usually straightforward, but it may take up to two weeks for symptoms of swelling and bruising to subside. Patients are therefore advised to take two weeks off work after having this procedure. If you have your brow lifted as part of facelift surgery, you can expect to spend an additional week recovering.

You will be tired (owing to the effects of anesthesia) immediately after your procedure. You should arrange to have someone pick you up from the hospital after your operation and take care of you for at least 48 hours. You can expect most of the discomfort associated with brow lift surgery to subside within three to five days after your procedure. However, you may experience lingering sensations of tightness in your forehead for two to three weeks after your surgery. This occurs because the skin and muscles need time to adjust to their new position. Residual swelling can also last for up to four weeks. Most patients see their results fully settle two to three months after their procedure.

In rare cases, patients experience tingling sensations or numbness in their forehead for several months after having a brow lift. These symptoms result from damage to the nerves in the forehead and generally resolve on their own as the affected nerves heal.

WHO MAKES A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BROW LIFT SURGERY?

Patients seeking a forehead lift (as a standalone procedure) should have realistic expectations. The ideal forehead lift candidate is a healthy mature adult whose primary issues are drooping or asymmetrical brows, deep forehead creases, and hooded eyes.

All surgical candidates must be current nonsmokers. Smoking delays healing and increases a person’s risk of infection, bleeding, and other complications. If you smoke, you will need to commit to remaining smoke-free for three weeks before and after your procedure. Wearing a nicotine patch should not interfere with your ability to heal, so you should feel free to ask your doctor about this option.

Certain medications can interfere with your ability to have invasive surgery. Blood thinners and anti-inflammatory pain relievers, including over the counter medicines like aspirin and ibuprofen, can increase your risk of bleeding and severe bruising. As such, you will be required to cease using these medications at least two weeks before your surgery. When you come in for a consultation, Dr. Wilson will review any medications and supplements you are taking to verify that you can safely have a brow lift.
