Breast Reconstruction in Portsmouth, NH with Dr. Anthony Wilson
Dr. Wilson provides implant and fat grafting-based reconstruction of the breast following lumpectomy and mastectomy for breast cancer.
How Is Breast Reconstruction Performed?
Breast reconstruction can be performed at the time of your mastectomy or lumpectomy, or it can be performed at a later time. Typically, Dr. Wilson works with our dedicated breast team to perform simultaneous implant-based reconstruction. At the time of the mastectomy a tissue expander is placed under or above your muscle. Over the following two to three months the expander is filled with saline until a desired size is met. This expander is then removed at a second procedure and replaced with a permanent implant.
Patients often elect to add fat grafting to their reconstruction. Fat grafting is typically done at a later time once the implant reconstruction has had time to heal. Fat can be used to enhance natural contour and soften the appearance of implants. Approximately 3 months after your final implant procedure a nipple and nipple areolar tattooing is performed to complete the reconstruction process.
How to Prepare for Surgery
Dr. Wilson will provide you with a personalized treatment plan. Our team will then coordinate a surgical date with your breast surgeon. You can expect a one-night admission to the hospital for this procedure. Please follow our detailed pre and postoperative guides.
