The 5 Most Effective Non-Surgical Facial Procedures According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

We love helping people look and feel good, and it’s nice to know that we’re in good company. After a long period of time, the world is ready to get out, socialize, and be around friends and family. Reunions and trips are cropping up, and people are responding with the quest to look their best. At AW Plastic Surgery, our patients trust us with all aspects of their aesthetic needs – from plastic surgery to non-invasive treatments.

Each year, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) releases consumer data that helps our practice make decisions and meet our patients’ demands. According to the ASPS, the self-care aspect of working and living remote has driven people to invest in themselves. We concur! The rapid growth of minimally-invasive facial cosmetic procedures shows that face value matters – whether on Zoom, FaceTime, or in real life. People simply want to look their best and are willing to invest in their appearance. In fact, $16.7 billion was spent on cosmetic procedures in the U.S. in 2020!

At AW Plastic Surgery, we delight in seeing our patients and are ready to help them in every aspect of their aesthetic self-care journey. In this post, we’ll break down the details of the top five most effective minimally invasive facial procedures, according to ASPS.

Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox®)

Botox® is a safe, effective injectable compound used to target common signs of aging in the face. It can be used to smooth deep, “dynamic” wrinkles and facial lines like crow’s feet, lift corners of the mouth, and address areas around the brows and eyes. Botox® is by far the most popular brand of Botulinum Toxin Type A injectables.

However, we also use Dysport®, which is very similar, but has a smaller molecule and can diffuse to a larger area. Some choose Dysport® because it has a faster onset, and patients can expect to see their results in just a day or two. Not surprisingly, the largest age group for choosing Botulinum Toxin Type A injectables is the 40-59 age group with 2,503,229 injections in one year!

If you’re scheduling Botox® or Dysport® injections in anticipation for an event, keep in mind that you’ll start to see the effects on your skin within a few days, but it takes about 2 weeks to see the full results.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Soft-Tissue Fillers

Dermal fillers are one of the most popular ways our patients choose to address signs of aging in the face – and for good reason. They’re convenient, affordable, and one of the least invasive non-surgical treatments that work immediately and subtly to restore volume, tighten sagging skin, and address deep signs of aging.

There is a wide range of soft-tissue filler products, all with varying areas of use, like marionette lines, lips, cheeks, nasolabial folds and more. The most popular are hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, which work by gently adding volume to sagging or hollow areas. Hyaluronic acid is a lubricating substance found naturally in your body. It’s effective as a dermal filler ingredient because of its ability to draw and retain water, which helps restore volume in areas where you’ve lost significant collagen and elastin. These dermal fillers help retain moisture and are long-lasting, making them an effective way to combat aging.

Dermal fillers may produce minor swelling and light bruising for a week or two following an appointment. Your master injector at AW Plastic Surgery will instruct you on how to care for your skin pre and post appointment, with tips like avoiding alcohol, certain medications, and taking Arnica to reduce swelling and bruising.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are another sought-after procedure because they can easily be performed in the office, have little downtime, and provide an immediate boost to the skin. Chemical peels may sound scary, but today’s methods are gentler than ever and help improve skin tone and texture by exfoliating and removing the outermost, damaged layer of skin. Although they can be used on other areas of the body, most chemical peels are applied on the face and are used to treat acne, lines and wrinkles, uneven skin textures, scarring, and environmental damage.

We use Dermaceutic’s expert professional range of products that combines a variety of powerful acids including alpha and beta hydroxy acids, TCA and phenol. Dermaceutic is a leader in the medical aesthetic industry for their continued discovery of effective combinations and concentrations of active ingredients. Our veteran skin care aesthetician, Tracy Thaden, will work with you to find just the right peel for your needs.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment has replaced Laser Skin Resurfacing in the top 5 cosmetic minimally invasive procedures with over 827,000 IPL procedures in 2020. That’s a lot of treatments and tells us that people are serious about finding ways to refine and resurface their skin!

IPL treats acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation and age spots from sun damage, redness and scars. Many of our patients who experienced acne in their teens love the effects that IPL delivers to smooth out acne pits and scarring. While most patients require two or three treatments, slight improvements can be noticeable after just one treatment. Our team will work with you to determine the best option for your skincare needs.
